FACTORS INFLUENCING LIBRARIANSHIP STUDENTS’ PARTICIPATION IN SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH

Abstract

This paper focuses on examining the factors affecting the librarianship students’ participation in scientific research in Can Tho University, Vietnam. The research is based on the conceptual framework and the State's regulations related to scientific research among students. Conducted by the quantitative method with a survey of 137 current librarianship students, the findings show that factors such as passion, external motivation and self-interest are influenced on students' participation in scientific research. The study also shows that the benefits of scientific research are the most powerful factors that motivate students to participate in research. On the contrary, the low awareness of self-study is the factor that prevents students from involving in scientific research activities. These findings are not only useful for the Department of Information and Library Management, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Can Tho University, but also an important reference for other training units in related to promoting research activities among students.
